Gwinnett is a very diverse county and people are represented from all around the globe. I will serve its residents by working to ensure the inclusion of diversity in administration, classrooms, programs, and lessons.
I believe multicultural education, multilingual learning, and STEAM programs will help to prepare our children to be successful and competitive both nationally and globally. Quality education includes a deliberate focus on early literacy skills, financial investments, teacher/parent/community engagement, and efficient allocation of resources.
Students deserve to have equal access to education regardless of their background and/or where they live. Parents want schools to meet the needs of their child and when schools don’t, some parents seek other options. Schools should be fully and equitably funded with no divestment of resources so parents will
know that their zoned school is indeed the best choice. From resource allocation to curriculum representation to academic differentiations, students should all have a chance to thrive and contribute to society.
Understanding and meeting the needs of individuals (students, teachers, & administrators) are important to create value, support, and unity. When students are “seen”, when the school environment supports the diversity of needs, and when students are empowered to engage in their own achievements, they succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Empathy breeds success, and when we treat people with compassion, respect, and appreciation, they feel as though they matter.
Parents, teachers, students, administrators, community members, and elected leaders all make the school system work effectively. These stakeholders will all be engaged in enhancing the learning environment, creating equity, impacting student achievement, and building a better future.
Every child has the right to quality educational experiences and opportunities. I will support teachers to have what they need to provide exceptional care and education for students. I will work for students to achieve excellence by ensuring policies, standards, and resources fully support their academic and social/emotional needs to position them for lifelong success.
Learning to talk, read, and write at an early age are fundamental to a child's success. Babies and toddlers benefit from exposure to language, songs, reading aloud, vocabulary cards, and other literacy activities. I will advocate for and support early childhood education because it improves cognitive development, augments vocabulary, and builds the skills necessary for students to have a successful start as they enter Kindergarten.
